Installing the Bumbleride Cold Weather Footmuff & Organic Infant Insert

Installing the Bumbleride Cold Weather Footmuff & Organic Infant Insert

When my first son was born in July 2020, I immediately used the Organic Infant Insert on my Bumbleride Era stroller from our very first walk. Sometime in November when the weather took a turn, he had enough neck control where I felt comfortable removing the Insert and installing the Cold Weather Footmuff. I never used them together.

Now here we are in 2026; I gave birth to my second in a January snow storm. As much as I love the idea of hunkering down until Spring appears, the reality is we are going to have to go outside at some point. We live in New York, after all: a city that heavily relies on walking and public transit. That was when I realized I needed to install the Footmuff and Insert together to keep my newborn snug as a bug. For reference, if you give the youtube video a watch, the weather that day was about thirty degrees, and my six week old baby was only wearing a cotton footie pajama and knit cotton beanie while in the footmuff.

Installation is very straight forward. Both accessories have openings to thread the stroller seat straps through and can be used on most full size strollers with a five point harness, not just Bumbleride. I've even used the footmuff on the Joolz Aer, which is a lightweight travel stroller, and the only issue was that the footmuff was too thick and fluffy to fold the stroller.

What is interesting to me is Bumbleride does not provide an official TOG (thermal overall grade) rating on their footmuff's product information via tags or website. (At least, I couldn't find one.) Based on my own personal use, I am guessing the TOG is 2-2.5, because we use the footmuff Fall, Winter, and Spring without a jacket when the weather is mid-thirties to upper-sixties/low seventies. When the weather dipped below freezing, we used the footmuff with a jacket or a blanket. My boys also naturally run very hot (furnaces, the both of them!) , so keep my personal experience as a helpful guideline, and remember you know your baby best.

The Organic Infant Insert should only be used on strollers with a five point harness and lay flat seats. The Bumbleride Speed does not have lay flat seats and is designed for babies older than six months.  The Era, Indie, and Indie Twin strollers all feature lay flat seats and a pram mode. I don't strap my newborn in while the seat is laying flat in pram mode. But, I find the straps a super helpful safety measure once baby starts rolling over and throughout the toddler stage.
